The Skowhegan State Fair Demo Derby, recognized throughout the State of Maine as the Best “Smash em“ “Crash em“ Demo derby going. Why are these so good, our demo derby’s are organized in house and operated in house, it doesn’t get any better. This year we will be holding 3 demo derby nights, make sure you mark your calendar for the dates or better yet, do what most people do, Go to ALL 3!!
Registration Fees
Pre-Registration Fee of $15.00 per car
(Entry must be IN and PAID by 5:00 pm at the fair office Thursday 8/13, Sunday 8/16 & Thursday 8/20)
LATE – Registration Fee of $50.00 per car
(Entries received and paid after PRE-Registrations – all late entries must be in and paid at the fair office by 5pm the day of the derby.)

Feature Prizes
1st place $1000 – plus a trophy
2nd place $ 600 – plus a trophy
3rd place $ 400 – plus a trophy
A trophy will be awarded to the Heat Winners (last 2 running cars) at the end of each heat.
PLUS the Heat Winners will move on to the Feature for a chance to win $1000.00! There will be 3 features, one for each derby night.
** Bonus Prize **
Drivers who have registered and competed in all three derbies will qualify for a chance to win the Bonus!
The Bonus will be awarded on Friday Aug. 15, 2025, to the 1st, 2nd & 3rd place feature winner**.
1st in feature gets an additional $1000 to Total $2000
2nd in feature gets an additional $600 to Total $1200
3rd in feature gets an additional $400 to Total $800
**must compete in all three derbies to qualify for Bonus.
Demolition Derby Rules
Driver’s Entry
Each driver must be preregistered.
Drivers must be 18 years of age.
All drivers must supply their own cars.
40 cars only will be allowed in the derby on Friday, August 8, Monday, August 11 and Friday, August 15, 2025. Late registrants will be allowed only if space is available for the event, this is subject to the discretion of the organizers.
Entries limited to 2 cars per driver.
Any Driver not obeying the rules will be disqualified, along with their cars.
All rules and regulations must be observed.
Derby Track/Pit/Gate Entry
1 Driver and 1 Mechanic will be admitted 2 hours prior to the event start time. Registration fee does not include gate admission – the Driver & Mechanic must pay gate admission
Only owners, drivers or mechanics will be permitted in the pit area or on the track.
No cars will be permitted on the track before the heat they are to participate in.
No Alcoholic beverages or illegal substances allowed in the pit area; drivers who are suspected to be under the influence will be disqualified along with their cars.
Track operators or promoters reserve the right to approve or reject any and all entries.
Derby Car
Any stock hardtop automobile or station wagon is allowed. No trucks, jeeps, vans, hearses, school buses, AWD Vehicles etc. will be allowed. No alterations.
Paint/Decoration
Car Numbers must be on both sides and roof of car – Car Numbers must be identified on registration form, otherwise a number may be assigned to you on the day of the event.
DRIVERS SIDE DOOR MUST BE PAINTED WHITE.
No obscenity of any kind displayed on car.
Gas Tanks/Battery
A maximum of 3 gallons of gasoline will be allowed.
Gas tanks must be moved to the trunk, only if the tank is located behind the rear axle.
Tanks will be allowed in drivers compartment only if covered with a separate metal cover.
Only one (1) stock car battery is allowed.
MATTING OR METAL IS REQUIRED OVER BATTERY AND FUEL TANK. Make sure tanks are strapped and secured firmly.
Frame, etc…
No notching or cutting frames.
No blocking frames or suspension.
No reinforcements of any kind will be allowed. Except the driver’s side door.
Trailer hitches must be removed.
All doors must be welded or chained shut. If driver’s side door comes open he will be disqualified.
Use rope to keep hoods and trunk lids down. Do not weld, chain or bolt the hoods or trunk lids down.
A 12 by 15 inch hole must be cut in the center of the hood.
All glass and chrome trim and anything that might become imbedded in the track must be removed from the car before bringing auto to the grounds. Don’t leave broken glass in doors. Clean them out.
Car and trunk must be cleaned out.
Windshield is optional.
Brakes must work.
Front and rear bumpers must be near equivalent to the stock bumper from manufacturer. Replacement bumpers must be the same style and era of the original.
ABSOLUTELY NO bumper covers front or rear.
ABSOLUTELY NO roll cage or piping.
No Mirrors at all – this includes rear view mirrors.
All plastic must be removed.
Tires
Tires must be stock size.
4 ply or 6 ply only. NO Double tires. Tubes are ok.
Remove wheel weights.
Safety
Safety belts and helmets are required.
Air bags must be disabled.
Fire Extinguishers are required in the driver’s compartment, and must be secured within the driver’s reach.
Heat/Feature Participation
Driver’s may maneuver forward or backward.
No deliberate head-on collisions or deliberately ramming driver’s door. This can lead to disqualification.
The judges will set a time limit within which to hit other cars.
If a driver does not hit a car within the limit, this can lead to disqualification. Do not play possum.
All car owners must remove their cars from the grounds on Derby Night. Regardless of condition.
Additional safety regulations may be imposed depending on the track.
The decision of the judges is final.
