4-H developed in the early years of this century as a response to the educational needs of rural youth and their families. Although the original emphasis of the 4-H program was to promote agricultural education, the 4-H program has expanded its objectives to include the development of youth as individuals and responsible citizens through a variety of methods such as: organized clubs, special interest or short term groups, school enrichment programs, camping and adventure groups.
4-H builds partnerships for community youth that value and involve youth in solving issues critical to their lives, families and societies.
The 4-H Motto is "Learn by Doing"; the 4-H Slogan is "To Make The Best Better"; and the 4-H Mission Statement is "To help young people acquire knowledge, develop life skills and form attitudes that will help them become self-directing, productive and contributing members of society". 4-H is fun and for all youth! For more information on 4-H, contact your local Extension Office.
Keep watch for this year's 4-H Parade held on Sunday just before the Harness Races.
